“What Is It?” is a new activity at the Valli Kee Youth Center where the kids and teens work to identify a new object each week. Objects so far have included an Asian herbal mushroom, electronic stylus pen, and a discharged Civil War bullet.
The object of the week is placed on a table in the main room where everyone can see it. The kids and teens are then able to use the internet or other resources to correctly identify the object. They have five days to come up with an answer to what it is and how it is used. This allows the participants to practice their word choice and description abilities; skills they will carry throughout their education, personal lives, and future careers.
