The following was prepared by an After School staff member.
In the high school homework room, I was able to help one of the students with some language arts homework. Together, we read the article and discussed the situations in each paragraph. I asked him questions in an effort to further his comprehension. We worked to dig deeper and truly understand the thesis of the article to make sure he understood the direction and meaning. Finally, we worked on real world evidence applicable to the article. We used those examples to answer the questions.
For me this was a success, because this particular student is a very smart kid with fantastic grades. The fact that he needed my assistance was a big deal. As always, it was a privilege to be there.
