I was invited to join KYFS as a third-generation board member from my family. Becoming a board member has allowed me to contribute to something meaningful in the community that I was born and raised in. I joined the KYFS board in early 2020, right before the pandemic. In the following years I have been able to witness all the work the staff has put in to make sure the kids they were working with were able to get the proper support that they needed, especially during this very difficult time.
Growing up in a family full of educators, one of the programs that is meaningful to me is the Headstart/ECEAP program. It’s given opportunities to the underserved communities by providing free preschool, transportation, and medical screenings for students. This program also provides services to the families so they can help support their children.
