Kent Youth and Family Services is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist. Under the supervision of the Director, Behavioral Health Programs, the Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) Behavioral Health Specialist will provide case management and therapeutic services to sexually exploited youth ages 12-24 as referred to KYFS. Primary responsibilities include: engagement, risk assessment, safety planning, implementation of harm reduction strategies, emotional support, convening multidisciplinary teams, and providing clients with guidance in navigating complex systems and institutions.

REPORTS TO: Director Behavioral Health Programs

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Program Operations:
1. Provide face-to-face services when a CSEC youth is initially referred or when an existing KYFS client’s sexual exploitation is suspected.
2. Provide individual case management and advocacy to a caseload of sexually exploited youth. Develop individualized, strength-based, youth-driven service plans in core areas of safety, recovery, housing, mental health, chemical dependency, education, employment, and life skills.
3. Maintain regular contact with clients to respond to emerging needs and crises. Assist youth in navigating systems, including, but not limited to: justice system, detention, and DSHS.
4. Connect CSEC youth to KYFS services and to community resources, including housing, health and mental health, chemical dependency, education, employment, life skills, etc.
5. Conduct community outreach at social service agencies and community organizations to inform and educate staff and youth of services and program.
6. With the support of the Program Manager and Program Coordinator, develop and maintain relationships with police, courts, detention, and other staff and systems youth may be involved with.
7. Maintain clear, professional, timely client case notes, service plans, progress updates, statistical records, and other documentation according to all applicable HIPAA and other strict confidentiality laws and guidelines.
8. Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A. Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience in direct service role, non-profit setting (case management experience preferred).
2. Knowledge and experience of crisis intervention, child abuse/neglect, juvenile justice, domestic violence, housing and homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, public assistance rights, sexual abuse and assault, family dynamics.
3. Experience networking and advocating with other agencies to access housing, medical, financial, legal, educational and other resources on behalf of youth or young adults.

B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Knowledge of and training in commercial sexual exploitation, particularly children, youth and young adults. Knowledge of and direct experience working with prostituted, runaway, and homeless youth. Knowledge of systems and resources relevant to the population.
3. Ability to relate in an empathic, supportive, non-judgmental manner to all youth and their families.
4. Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
5. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients while building trust and respect.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Experience working with diverse populations. Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
8. Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency.

C. Additional Requirements
1. Must have current negative TB test.
2. CPR/First Aid Certification.
3. HIV/AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)
4. Satisfactory completion of any required finger printing and criminal background checks.
5. Valid Washington driver’s license, acceptable driving record, personal automobile for job related transportation, current auto insurance meeting minimum Washington vehicle insurance requirements
6. Eligible for employment in the United States.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is performed in an office environment with periods of time sitting. This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.
• This person must speak clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone.
• Generally good working conditions with little or no exposure to extremes in noises and temperature with little or no safety or health hazards.
• Minimal lifting or climbing.
• Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

HOURS/COMPENSATION
• Full-time, exempt position.
• Benefit package offered including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability and life insurance. Eligible for agency contribution to 403b retirement plan after one year of service and 1,000 working hours.
• In accordance with Kent Youth and Family Services wage structure and based upon qualifications.
• Vacation, sick leave and holiday pay.
